"We appreciate the gallant efforts of H.E the President in leading from the front and rallying the country to come together as one in this fight.

"The appointment of the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund Committee to mobilise resources for the fight gives all Kenyans and indeed the entire community of goodwill the opportunity to offer their much needed support.

"The Board of Directors and staff of Co-op Bank is honored to support with a key cash contribution of Ksh100 million, preferably to be allocated towards purchase of critical ventilators," a letter signed by Group Managing Director Dr. Gideon Muruki read in part.

The letter was addressed to Jane Karuku, Chairperson of the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.

The bank further urged other organizations and other Kenyans to come to come together in support of efforts to combat the spread of the deadly virus.

As of Sunday, April 5, there were 142 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kenya along with 4 full recoveries and 4 fatalities.

The government has been working to secure support to increase its capacity and ability to undertake various essential functions required for the country to effectively combat the disease.

Areas given priority include funding for medical diagnostic services, surveillance and response in addition to isolation, quarantine and treatment centres.

Other key areas include community engagement, risk communication and medical waste disposal.
