Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna revealed that Nairobi residents locked out by the travel ban will have to wait for 21 days to gain access into the county.
A number of Nairobi residents were locked out after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced a cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa counties.
Heavy traffic was witnessed in the roadblocks erected in various entry points of Nairobi with some pleading for entry after the 7 pm curfew.
In an interview with Citizen on Monday, April 6, Oguna was asked about the fate of parents who left their children under the care of a relative in Nairobi but are meant to come back into the county to continue taking care of the child.
"There is no mother really or a parent that would leave a child without the care of anyone and indeed we must also be careful here.
"A mother who has gone out of town and left the child here in Nairobi, the possibility of them bringing back the infection to the child is very high,
"Therefore anyone who has gone out of Nairobi town and is out there outside the time frame that has been given by the government then it means that that person will have to find alternative arrangements."
Movement within the Nairobi Metropolitan area is permitted but in adherence to the government directives to curb the spread of the virus.
In response to another question of a breastfeeding mother who travelled to Naivasha for a job meeting but had been locked out by the curfew, Oguna revealed that the matter will be discussed.
"That is quite an unfortunate situation really that is very delicate because it is a young child, indeed that is a situation that will be looked at on its own merit.
"If it is true because there are those who just talk about these situations but they are not necessarily true.
"If you got a young child, maybe less than a year old that requires that you must be in the presence of the child we are also human beings.
"What would happen if that mother comes, if at all she is allowed to come based on the circumstances that she's in, then she may have to go and test for Covid-19 to ensure that when she was out there she did not contract it in Naivasha."
