Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o has replaced himself from a county seat after a widespread outcry.

The county boss had in March 2020 appointed himself as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for health and at the same time served as the county's governor.

In a letter dated Wednesday, March 8, the governor, however, appointed Boaz Otieno Nyunya as the CECM for Health and Sanitation.

Otieno was an associate professor at Moi University and has a rich background in Health-related matters.

"Pursuant to powers conferred by Article 179 (2) (b) of the constitution 2010 and Section 30 (2) (d) of the County Government Act 2019. I have today nominated Dr Boaz Otieno Nyunya to serve as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation.

"Otieno Nyunya is a consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist and Public Health practitioner, researcher, a leader in reproductive health, educationist and programme specialist," read the statement in part.

The governor's appointment to the seat did not sit well with a section of Kisumu residents who accused him of denying other qualified people job positions.

At the time, Nyong'o had carried out a reshuffle in which three CECs were shown the door in a move he claimed was aimed at improving service delivery in the county.

They were Alice Moraa (Energy), Richard Ogendo ( Cooperatives) and Thomas Ondijo (Roads).

He, at the time, explained that he had assumed the position on a temporary basis while scouting for a suitable candidate.

"In the meantime, the Department of Health and Sanitation shall be managed by the governor himself before the appointment of a substantive CECM," read the letter in part.
