The Government on Tuesday, April 14, stated that Kenyans in India were struggling amid the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the world.

During a press briefing held from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office along Harambee Avenue, Nairobi, Principal Secretary (PS) Macharia Kamau announced that India was one of the Countries that the Kenyan Government were closely looking at.

He informed that more than 64 Kenyans had been caught up in the lockdown in the country.

"These are people who are there for medical purposes. Our estimate is that we have around 160 Kenyans who have found themselves on the wrong side of the lockdown.

"They had gone there either as patients or accompanying patients. The situation there is concerning," expressed Macharia.

Macharia added that most of them had already run out of money because they were not expecting to be in the country for such a long time.

"Some of them sadly have lost the patients with whom they went for treatment and this is tragic but they are not able to bring their loved ones home," Macharia stated.

The PS stated that the government had taken up the matter with the Government of India.

"We hope that we are going to find an amicable solution that will work for everybody," he continued.

Macharia emphasized that it will not be possible to bring bodies of Kenyans who die in other Countries due to the Covid-19 situation.

“We also request Kenyans to bear with us and bury those who die in the diaspora within 24 hours,” he stated.
