Leading betting firm Mozzartbet donated Ksh10 million worth of medical equipment towards the fight against Covid-19 that is set to benefit 10 hospitals across the country.

Mozzartbet on Wednesday, April 15 joined the list of other Kenyans of goodwill who have contributed towards the fight of the deadly virus that has gripped the country.

The medical equipment donated include PPEs, masks, sanitizers, thermometers and other materials essential in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ksh10 million donation is set to benefit healthcare facilities in Nakuru, Siaya, Kisii, Embu, Nyandarwa, Baringo, Bomet, Kisumu, Kakamega and Kitui.

Baringo and Nakuru Health Centres will be the first beneficiaries of the medical equipment donated by the betting firm.

Speaking after giving the donation, Mozzartbet director Hon. Musa Sirma expressed the firm's commitment to helping the country during the pandemic.

"The Mozzartbet Company has been operating in Kenya for three years and is honoured to be able to show solidarity with the Kenyan people and help the healthcare system deal with this terrible disease."

The pandemic has brought to a halt almost all sporting activities which has, in turn, adversely affected the betting industry. The Company, however, announced it has retained all its employees on full salaries.

Sirma added that the donation is a true image of the company, "This is a true and enviable example of the socially responsible and solidarity behaviour of the company that should be emulated by all other corporate entities operating in the Kenyan market."

The betting firm's director reiterated the importance of their employees and assured them of their jobs during this harsh economic time.

"What is encouraging, however, are the positive examples and measures that individual companies are introducing with a primary focus on the health and well-being of their employees and their families.

"Mozzartbet employees have no fears over their salaries and financial stability because their jobs are secure and wages are paid in full on a regular basis.

"Our employees are our most valuable resource, which is why, with the outbreak of the virus, we formed and implemented the system-wide action plan to combat the disease, then organized work from home for all the employees if and when possible, to minimize the spread of the pandemic.

"In addition, we have taken a number of measures to preserve all jobs and full salaries, despite the fact that our turnover was drastically reduced due to the suspension of sporting events which our business depends on."

Sirma stressed the importance of the safety of employees during this uncertain time since the company's future success in all markets depends on them to the largest extent.

Safaricom also joined the list of corporates that contributed towards the fight against Covid-19 by committing Sh200 million towards providing food for the needy through its M-Pesa and Safaricom Foundation platforms.
