Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has dismissed the strategy employed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement on his social media platforms on Thursday, April 16, Ahmednasir accused Kagwe of shying away from employing new means to fight the pandemic and had instead opted to feed Kenyans similar information day in, day out.
"Despite being nationally lionized and widely glorified, CS Kagwe and his team have for 4 weeks fed Kenyans the same menu of "today 4 people tested positive"...
"Kenyans are not only very sceptical but are of the view that Kagwe and his team are "All hat and no cattle" simply put, not up to the task," the lawyer stated.
The vocal lawyer insisted that instead of news about new infections and recoveries every single day, the CS and the entire team should focus on strategies that would inform the common citizen of possible reliefs in the wake of the pandemic.
He informed the team that Kenyans could benefit more from a solid plan with a sense of direction more than the daily declarations that characterize the CS' pressers.
"With no discernible strategy, no mass testing or total lockdown to break the chain of spreading the virus, Kawge and his team are blindly leading us nowhere.
"How can we know how widespread the disease is without testing? What is the strategy to end the lockdown and reopen the country?" he added.
Ahmednasir warned that at the current rate and pace at which the disease was advancing, Kagwe would run out of useful information to give Kenyans.
He urged that Kagwe turns his attention to prevention and control of the rate of infections in the country more than the daily announcements of casualties, infections and recoveries.
"What is next step after this stale strategy of "today 4 people tested positive". Can't we move beyond the ritual of announcing the people who test positive?
"How prepared are our hospitals for a full-blown crisis? Do we have machines for mass testing? Is the disease out of control?" he concluded.
