Nominated Nairobi MCA Anne Thumbi has reverted back to her nursing career to save lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thumbi is professionally registered as a nurse and volunteered at the Waithaka Health Centre to help during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She has forgone the privilege of a furnished office to don gloves and a nursing suit to help residents of Waithaka at a time when health facilities are overwhelmed.

Thumbi won a lot of hearts on social media with her selfless act that has drawn the attention of former Director of Digital Communications at the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU), Dennis Itumbi who shared images of her at work on Friday, April 17.

Her efforts are appreciated especially because funds for Nairobi County to hire additional health workers are tied up in a tiff between Governor Mike Sonko and Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Mohammed Badi.

Sonko has rejected a supplementary bill which had allocated Ksh1 billion to fight Covid-19 in the city. He sent the bill back to the assembly because the county's Finance CEC was not consulted.

Therein lies another supremacy battle as Allan Igambi's appointment by Sonko was rejected by Government Printer CEO Mwenda Njoka, who argued that the changes were not made according to the law.

Speaker Beatrice Elachi widened the confusion when she claimed the house recognises Pauline Kahiga as the substantive Finance CEC.

Anne Thumbi hails from Tetu, Nyeri County, was nominated to the Nairobi County Assembly by Jubilee Party.

Her most notable contribution to the Nairobi County Assembly was a motion seeking to have private hospitals barred from charging visitors parking fees.

"It is unfair for a patient or the family of the patient to incur extra parking charges yet they have medical bills to cater for. Parking should be free in all hospitals," she argued.

Thumbi hit headlines in late July 2019 following the death of former Kibra MP Ken Okoth, after his family denied knowledge of her and her son who she bore for the late MP.

The two met while she was working as a medic in the governor's charity outfit, Sonko Rescue Team.
