The family of a Kenyan journalist is in mourning following the death of her aunt to Covid-19-related complications in the United Kingdom.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, former East FM presenter Kamal Kaur disclosed that the family received the sad news through a WhatsApp message from her uncle who lives abroad.

She further noted that the sad news took them by surprise given the good health she had enjoyed prior.

"Yes, she was in the UK and she passed away yesterday (Wednesday, April 22). My uncle sent the message to our family WhatsApp group.

"In the UK, things are very different from funerals over here. In the UK,  you have to wait your turn. We are just focused on keeping the family together," stated the journalist.

"She wasn't (infected) for long. She was quite healthy and fit as well. We are just dealing with the shock," Kaur added.

Kaur, however, pointed out that in the face of danger, people can help control the situation by following government directives from wearing masks to maintaining the appropriate social distance to curb its spread.

Current data shows 2,658,764 had tested positive of the disease that has claimed 185,439 lives worldwide.

In Kenya alone, as off Thursday, April 23, a total of 320 infections had been reported with 14 people having succumbed to the virus.

The United Kingdom, on the other hand, has recorded 133,495 infections and 18,000 deaths.

Community infections continues to grow in Kenya with the Kenya Ports Authority, which has so far recorded one death, announcing that some 24 employees had also tested positive.
