Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday evening, April 29, praised three women who have gone out of their way to feed enforcement officers.

In a statement on his Twitter page, Matiang'i stated that the women exemplified Kenya's resilience and unity in the fight against COVID-19.

"I commend the ladies in Tala, Kangundo who have voluntarily used their time and resources to feed our enforcement officers. These ladies exemplify Kenya's resilience and unity. Thank you so much," he wrote.

The three ladies were featured on Citizen TV, where they explained that they had been volunteering to feed the officers at the roadblock.

"We passed by this place on Saturday and noted that these officers were very thirsty and didn't have any water. We gave them sodas.

"When we passed by the area in the evening, they told us to bring them food and that is when we made the decision to be feeding them," Faith Mailu, a resident in Tala stated.

The women, who contribute to buying foodstuff, have been helping the officers for the last two weeks.

"I am a resident around here and I felt sorry for the officers when I noted that they were staying hungry the whole day so I joined hands with Priscillah.

While appreciating the women's efforts, Matungulu County Commissioner Mohamed Abbas stated that it was a struggle for the officers to get food before the women came to their aid.

"There are no shops or hotels around the roadblock, hence, it is difficult to get food. We are very grateful that they have been offering food to the officers.

The women asked well-wishers to offer help where they can in the wake of the spread of COVID-19.
