UPDATE
Police have arrested Omar Lali in connection to the mysterious death of Tecra Muigai- daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja.
Lali was reportedly dating and living with Tecra before her untimely death, with police reports claiming an inconsistency in his recorded statements.
He allegedly claimed that she had fallen down a flight of stairs at her home in Shela, Lamu, before changing his narrative to one in which Tecra slipped and fell in the bathroom.
New disturbing details have emerged about the nature in which Tecra Muigai, Keroche Breweries heiress, met her death while in her boyfriend's house.
Daily Nation disclosed that Muigai, who was living with her boyfriend, Omar Lali, at a private residence in Shella on Lamu Island, fell down a flight of stairs on Tuesday, April 28.
The publication further indicated that police were holding Lali to assist them with investigations into the incident with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives expected to descend to the Lamu home for more insights.
Quoting the DCI's Head of Serious Crimes Joseph Kariuki, the paper also noted that the family had already requested investigations into her fall even before her death.
"It is after her death that we are handing the matter to the Homicide Unit and we have asked them to move to the house," stated Kariuki.
The paper also noted that Lali had allegedly given contradicting accounts of what really transpired, accounts that had been picked up by other media outlets.
The Standard report indicated that Tecra, the daughter of Keroche CEO Tabitha Karanja and Chairman Joseph Karanja may have fallen from the balcony of the house.
She was later airlifted to Nairobi where she stayed in a coma for three days until she was pronounced dead.
Quoting Lali, People Daily, on the other hand, indicated that Tecra had met her death after slipping and falling while in the bathroom.
Lamu County Police Commander Moses Muriithi told the publication that her boyfriend had been summoned by detectives over the accident.
“Initial investigations indicate that she slipped and fell in her bathroom and sustained head injuries. However, the matter has since been taken over by DCI Homicide Unit and investigations are ongoing.
“We are still unable to give much information since the matter was reported in Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi,” stated the commander.
A statement by Keroche Breweries confirmed her death on Saturday afternoon, May 2, stating that Tecra died following a tragic accident.
"The Board of Directors and Management of Keroche Breweries is deeply saddened to inform that Tecra Muigai Karanja passed away," reads the statement in part.
Until her demise, Tecra was the Strategy and Innovation Director at Keroche Breweries.
