Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi unveiled an ultra-modern hospital complex in the county on Wednesday, May 6, that saw Kenyans laud his efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic in the county.
Taking to his social media accounts, Governor Kingi praised the project as a major boost in the fight against Covid-19 and also a feature that would serve the county residents long after the pandemic has been countered.
"The completion of the ultra-modern health complex in Kilifi County has given our county government a much-needed boost in our efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
"A section of the four-story building has been converted into a 150-bed isolation center with 2 critical care rooms fitted with ventilators and ICU beds," he stated.
The new complex, apart from having a well-equipped medical section, also won hearts with its modern doctors' residence set to benefit medical practitioners working in the hospital.
The facility also boasts a cancer centre that will offer chemotherapy and radiotherapy services to cancer patients in the county and beyond.
The governor announced that the intensive care units (ICU) in the facility is well equipped with cardiac monitors and mechanical ventilators which have been readied to respond to any critical Covid-19 patients.
Kingi further stated that in the near future, the hospital would be equipped with a CT scan, an MRI machine and an ultra eye machine as well as a positron emission tomography (PET) to better cater for the residents' health.
He expressed optimism that the hospital would help de-congest the Coast General and Referral Hospital which over the years has had challenges in serving residents from Lamu, Mombasa, Tana River and Kwale counties.
"Once the Covid-19 crisis is averted, the complex will host a high dependency unit (HDU), intensive care unit (ICU), four state-of-the-art theatres and a cancer unit which will offer radiotherapy and chemotherapy services.
The hospital by Kingi has been used by a majority of Kenyans as an opportunity to hit out at their area governors for sleeping on the job.
"Congratulations governor and please try and educate your fellow ODM governors especially from Luo Nyanza. Looting should not always be the order of the day," Benson Juma wrote.
"Good and awesome. Congratulations governor. Meanwhile, this is the Machakos office blocks," Hillary Ngasura mocked Governor Alfred Mutua after he announced the near-completion of an ultra-modern county headquarters.
"Governor (Wycliffe) Wangamati, I hope you are seeing what other governors are doing for their people," Onchiri Joseph called out the Bungoma governor.
"Pongezi (Congratulations), and most importantly, you worked in silence unlike the Murang'a guy who did a contraption of concrete and mortar and called it an ICU," Lukas Ndegwa mocked Murang'a County Governor Mwangi wa Iria over the ICU block he built in a little more than 21 days.
