Celebrated NTV News anchor Salim Swaleh has opened up about his experience presenting news alone, without a teleprompter and in shorts while at home.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the TV personality disclosed that although he was ambushed, the experience was so fulfilling and that he learned that he could broadcast news without depending much on technical help.

He further added that he was ambushed to do the Friday, May 8, 4 p.m. Swahili bulletin, a challenge he gladly welcomed.

"That was a short, a long one. You see, when you are in the studio, we dress for the audience because they are so many cameras... Yesterday was my off-day and I was ambushed to do the 4 O'clock bulletin. If you watched the news, everything just looked okay. I also wanted to tell my fans that it is not all you see, there is also the behind-the-scenes. just for fun.

"The issue was relaying the message. Those who did not know that I posted did not see I was wearing the shorts... Working from home has its own privileges and advantages," stated Swaleh.

"You have seen the Fox News guys and the CBS guys... You have to fully dress when you are in the studio. The experience was presenting news through a mobile phone...

"The entire bulletin went through a cell phone and through an application called Live U. I did not know that I could present news from home without a camera and that I can do everything and frame myself and read the news at the same time," he added.

He further pointed out that his experience was part of the company's plan to assess its preparedness in working outside Nation Centre in case the building was closed down in the event that a staffer tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

"Nation just want to see if at all in a worst-case scenario, it is possible for us to do news outside Nation Centre.

"If someone tested positive at Nation Centre, you know the government will close down that area and the newsroom will go into quarantine. It was basically a trial and error and tried with the 4 p.m. news," he explained.
