Jubilee Women MPs on Thursday, May 14, condemned the party leadership after the ouster of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as Chief Whip and Majority Leader respectively.

Speaking to the press at Parliament Buildings, the MPs expressed solidarity with the two and all nominated senators who had been threatened with expulsion from the party.

"We reject and denounce the manner in which our party's secretary-general has selectively issued letters to Jubilee Women Nominated Senators who did not attend a Parliamentary Group Meeting called at the State House," they stated.

Some of the women MPs present in the presser include; Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Kandara MP Alice Wahome and Bomet Woman Rep Joyce Korir.

Specifically, the women complained that Kihika, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, had been replaced by a male chief whip.

"We also denounce and condemn the illegal process perpetrated by the said secretary-general all the way to the Senate without due regard to the Political Parties Act and the requirements of the constitution for a fair administrative process.

"Even assuming the process was right, why would our party PG support to remove a woman Chief Whip and replace with a male Chief Whip? What does that say about the treatment of women by our party?" they questioned in a statement that was curiously signed 'Jubilee Women Members of Parliament'.

They called on the party to stop what they described as the threats against female members, stating that they had worked hard and under difficult circumstances to build the party.

Their statement came a day after five nominated senators;  Iman Falhada Dekow, Waqo Naomi Jillo, Prengei Victor, Mary Yiane and Millicent Omanga, were ordered to show cause for failing to attend the Senate PG.

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju accused the five of gross insubordination and misconduct. The five are set to appear before the party's disciplinary organ that will determine their fate at the party.

Further, they criticised the government's Covid-19 response plan by arguing that Kenya was testing fewer samples than her regional peers.

They alleged that the government had issued contradictory positions when it came to mass testing.

"Testing must be the basis of the government decision to relax the public health regulations on Covid-19 prevention measures," they advised.
