Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njenga on Thursday, May 21, termed a report by Citizen TV about continued Ruai demolitions as fake.

Njenga noted that the clips used in the story were from previous demolitions carried out and not the ones purported to have happened on Tuesday, May 19.

"We want to correct an impression which has been created in the last few days. The issue of demolitions in Ruai, we want to state categorically because we have seen that item on Citizen TV.

"They are alleging that houses were being demolished on Tuesday night, we want to categorically say this is not true," noted Njenga.

The Nairobi Regional Commissioner noted that the operation of repossessing the land had already ended.

He added that the land was now in the hands of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company in order to proceed in the expansion of the sewage treatment plant.

Njenga added that the media was free to inquire about information from them and added that there would be no demolitions until the pandemic is contained, reiterating a directive given earlier by the President Uhuru Kenyatta that was seemingly ignored in the Ruai demolitions.

Njenga also shed more light on the help the government was providing to vulnerable households in the county.

"We have a food and cash programme for people who are out of jobs and are in need of relief food.

"The government's policy is not to give food directly as we used to. This is because, once you start doing the relief food distribution, a lot of people gather as like what happened in Kibra," explained Njenga.

He also added that a total of 382,033 people from 125,629 households have been identified and will be receiving a weekly cash transfer of Ksh1,000 to buy food.
