Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina on Friday, May 22, reaffirmed his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement during the impeachment motion of the ousted Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki.

Speaking from parliament, Ledama addressed his party leader Raila Odinga and declared that he was a loyal member of ODM.

"I stand here to say that I am fully loyal to my party ODM. I have been a loyal member of that party and my party leader has been informed by other squatters (I call them that because they are people who do not even have homes) that I was disloyal to the party. That is not true," Ledama disclosed.

While addressing Kindiki, Ledama advised him to live and fight another day, stating that his goose was already cooked.

"The fight that I am personally going through, which has brought a lot of questions, is what I want to share with you so that you know that you are not alone in this fight.

"To the people of Tharaka Nthi, I want to plead with you to continue supporting the process of democracy that brought you into this house," he stated.

Ledama lauded Kindiki for doing a good job as the Deputy Speaker and added that his rulings were always well thought through.

"Part loyalty versus meritocracy are two very different things. Today, my dear brother, the man I respect a lot, we are here to discuss the matter of party loyalty and not your competency," he added.

Ledama concluded by stating that meritocracy versus political party loyalty, was a topic that needed to be defined in the future.

The Narok Senator's sentiments came after the ODM party ousted him from his position as chairman of the powerful Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC), to which he had been elected.

On May 7 2020, Orengo, through the letter sent out to the Senate Speaker, stated that the party had discharged Ledama from his new position.

"In accordance with the Senate Standing Order 190, I hereby give notice of the discharge and the removal of Senator Ledama ole Kina from the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee and the Senate Business Committee," reads an excerpt of the letter.
