Ministry of Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi on Friday, May 29, announced that 127 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 1,745.
Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, the CAS announced that 3,831 samples had been tested during the period, bringing the total samples tested in the country to 74,003.
The new cases are distributed as follows; Nairobi-76, Mombasa-19, Busia-16, Uasin Gishu-8, Kiambu-2, Kajiado-5 and Isiolo-1.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health announced that 17 more were discharged from various, bringing the total number to 438.
4 Mombasa patients died. All had either hypertension, diabetes or asthma. So far 62 deaths have been recorded.
Distribution of cases by sub-counties in Nairobi: Kibra-49, Ruaraka-13, Madaraka-4, Westlands-4, Lang’ata-2, Embakasi West-1, Kasarani-1, Dagoretti North-1 and Starehe-1.
Mombasa
The cases are from Kisauni-7, Mvuta-6, Nyali-3, Likoni-2 and Jomvu-1.
Busia
Busia Town-8, Malaba Border-2 and 6 at Alupe Quarantine Facility.
Uasin Gishu cases are all from Turbo while in Kajiado, 2 are at Kajiado North and 3 at Namanga Border.
In Kiambu, 1 case is from Kiambu Town and the other from Kabete while In Isiolo, one is from Isiolo Town.
The high numbers observed were as a result of mass testing and high community transmission.
The ministry also warned Kenyans using unofficial routes to sneak into restricted areas.
“I want to remind such people that Nairobi and Mombasa are currently the counties with the highest number of infections. Sneaking out of these areas is equivalent to sneaking the virus into the counties.
"Those engaged in this practice may think it is heroism, but you may just have taken the virus to your family or friends,” she spoke.
