Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi was thrown out of a Ford Kenya party meeting convened by Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati on Sunday, May 31.
Wanyonyi had arrived at the venue, Nairobi's Raddison Blu Hotel, accompanied by a group of youth, and alleged that there was a plot by Wangamati to seize control of the party from Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, the party leader and National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-Principal.
Not long after he arrived, he was accompanied out of the venue by several men but continued his protest from outside the building.
The youth also accused Wangamati of engaging in corruption as police tried to calm them down when they started banging on the hotel gates.
Wanyonyi, an ally of Wetangula, claimed that whatever Wangamati was up to was wrong, alleging that selfish interests were behind the alleged plot.
The lawmaker questioned why he had been removed from the meeting despite being a member of the party, as rowdy youth in his company backed his protest.
"I don't understand why they are throwing me out. We are here, it is not going on. Wangamati and his group are in there meeting," he stated.
Details of the meeting remain unclear but reports indicate that internal wrangles within the party had emerged with a section of members allegedly losing faith in Wetangula's leadership.
One of those accompanying Wanyonyi claimed that Wangamati was orchestrating a coup to take Ford Kenya from Wetangula, maintaining that they would not allow it.
"We cannot allow somebody dealing with corruption to take over the party. Ford Kenya will never be taken over by an individual. There is no way out.
"Who is Wangamati? He cannot take the party, I assure you. You cannot take a party from a hotel. The coup cannot happen, let me tell you."
Details of the meeting's resolution were to be announced at a press briefing after the meeting.
