Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on Tuesday, June 2, found himself as the subject of countless jokes after a video of him in which he appears to be running after President Uhuru Kenyatta went viral.
However, upon closer scrutiny of the video which was captured during the Madaraka Day celebrations, Kenyans.co.ke established that the entire joke was based on a misrepresentation of facts.
At the very start of the video, Raila is seen vacating his seat before the camera pans out to cover President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto making their way back to the main dais.
The two then move around making bows as a form of greeting in adherence to the social distancing rule as they make their way to their seats.

It was at this very moment that Raila once again reappeared hurriedly making his way back to his seat, leading to the humorous jokes.
"Raila running to salute the President and his Deputy that's when he knew social distancing is real," one of the jokes reads.
Several memes have since been generated ridiculing the ODM party leader, with rib-cracking captions such as 'when your side chic sees you walking by with your wife' alluding to the fact that the President was walking by with his political partner, DP Ruto.
The simmering tension within the Jubilee Party and Raila's blossoming friendship with the president helped give the narrative a semblance of truth but this was not the case.
Raila and the president have since gone viral once again, in yet another video in which the two were captured on CCTV footage wandering the streets of Nairobi at night.
In the video, President Uhuru appears to have taken his handshake partner on a ride along Kenyatta Avenue at 8:25 p.m. in a dark blue station wagon.
Heavily armed security personnel were seen patrolling the area as the two leaders stepped out of the car for a casual stroll.
