Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday, June 2 held a closed-door meeting with the United Kingdom High Commissioner Jane Marriott.

The meeting was held at Ruto's Karen office and was geared towards the country strengthening its ties with the UK as both nations aim to resuscitate the economy crippled by the pandemic.

"We cherish the assistance, shared experiences and the guidance that the United Kingdom continues to extend to Kenya during this unprecedented time when the coronavirus disease is sweeping across the globe.

"Even as we confront the Covid-19 outbreak, Kenya commits to broaden and scale up its relations with the United Kingdom to guarantee sustained flow of trade and investments," wrote Ruto.

The Deputy President noted that stronger ties would accelerate a return to pre-crisis levels of activity and facilitate swift economic recovery.

Kenya plans to rebuild its economy in partnership with the British High Commission in Kenya through accelerated digital transformation, renewed focus on vulnerable urban populations and transformation of the healthcare system.

The UK High Commissioner also distributed food and sanitary packages to 250 households in Kibra over the weekend.

Ruto had earlier attended the Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group Meeting at State House, Nairobi that effected a number of changes in the National Assembly.

Among the changes made in the Parliamentary Group meeting included Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali being replaced by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe.

Former Minister of Trade and Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya was also appointed to serve as the inaugural Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group Leader.

Ruto was also present in the Madaraka Day Celebrations at State House on Monday, June 1 where he appeared to allay reports of a fallout with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The DP's speech, on Monday, June 1, acknowledged that the head of state was facing a difficult period in his leadership and ranked him above all the other three Presidents in decision making.
