Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta on reopening the economy noting it might be too soon to announce the move.

Kalonzo was speaking on Thursday, June 4 after receiving donations to the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation (KMF) Food Basket program.

"I know that the president will be talking to the country. I think around about the 6th of this month in the next two or three days.

"I would want to urge him to really receive all the expert advice because Kenyans are not sure whether we should just go back to business as usual," stated Kalonzo.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to provide an update on reopening the economy Saturday, June 6 when the dusk-to-dawn curfew expires.

The former Vice President warned against the premature reopening of the economy which would have grave consequences.

"I sense a feeling that there is so much tragedy around this Covid-19 thing, that it may be too soon to run and say get on with it.

"I want to again urge serious caution, very serious caution before we can say business as usual, because that could make the difference between life and death," urged Kalonzo.

The Former Education Minister advised a similar approach to be adopted on the reopening of schools where extensive consultations with stakeholders have been held.

"I've heard since that time a lot of consultation by Kenyans saying there will always be national examinations there will always be schools.

"You cannot allow a situation where children go back to class, infect each other, and the parents back at home and before you know it you have a wider tragedy than the country can bear," explained Kalonzo.

Entertainment joints, accommodation hotels, airports and churches were closed in a bid to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 with eateries reopened but under strict guidelines.
