Lugari MP Ayub Savula on Monday, June 8, claimed that a top official from Raila Odinga's ODM party approached him and presented a plan on how they would overthrow Musalia Mudavadi from his Amani National Congress Party (ANC).

Savula, who also serves as the ANC deputy party leader, revealed that he was enticed with the possibility of a lucrative role in the next elections.

"I have received an invitation by our affiliate party in NASA through one of the top officials, that I engage in some activities against my party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

"The gist of the matter is that they have arranged some ANC delegates that were to help me overthrow my party leader," he explained.

The ANC deputy party leader went on to maintain that he has always stood by his party leader for more than a decade, adding that his loyalty would not falter.

"The aim of this issue is to destabilise Musalia in the Western region by using the excuse that the ANC leader is working with Deputy President William Ruto," Savula elaborated.

His revelation comes after several reports surfaced claiming an hour-long meeting between MPs allied to Mudavadi was held on Monday morning, June 1, at the DP’s official residence in Karen before DP Ruto attended Madaraka Day celebrations at State House, Nairobi.

The Lugari legislator was swift to distance himself from the alleged meeting.

“As a party, we are messing things up when we appear to be meeting Ruto against the wishes of the President,” he said, noting that the party leadership should avoid diversionary antics and focus on rebuilding, for future political contests.

“Our focus should be on the 2022 election and not to undermine the President,” he asserted at the time.

DP Ruto's links to Mudavadi have gathered pace over the last few weeks with Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) Board Chair Makau Mutua claiming that machinations of how an alliance between the two would work is already underway.

"I am told that DP William Ruto will likely drop out of the Presidential contest and endorse Musalia Mudavadi for the top seat. The idea is to lock out Raila Odinga should he choose to run," Mutua wrote.
