Kirinyaga MCAs spent the night of Monday, June 8 at the County Assembly in preparation to impeach Governor Anne Waiguru to thwart intimidation and threats.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an insider verified the images that have been shared on social media.
“One of them is the budget committee chair David Mathenge who is also the MCA representing Baragwi Ward,” the source said.
“Kirinyaga MCAs determined to impeach Anne Waiguru this morning, slept in the assembly and switched off their phones,” Dennis Itumbi shared.
“A little discomfort to fight alleged corruption in the county & resist moves by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju,” he added.
Attempts by the governor to meet MCAs in her office on May 27 were futile after they staged a walkout.
The MCAs are planning to impeach the governor despite an existing court order.
On Tuesday, March 7, Justice Weldon Korir ruled that the governor did not have ample time to defend herself due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The case was suspended until the pandemic was contained with the judge adding that business at the assembly was to continue as usual.
The governor had also called upon the Jubilee Party to dewhip the MCAs for considering the impeachment, citing that the county had other matters to deal with.
On April 8, Tuju announced he had removed Kerugoya MCA Kamau Murango as the county assembly’s leader of majority for getting involved in the impeachment motion.
Tuju’s letter to all Jubilee Party elected and nominated ward reps directed them to toe the party line and disassociate themselves from any impeachment motion against Waiguru.
