When Chief Justice David Maraga called for a press conference to air out his frustrations with the Executive, the last thing he expected to see was a cat freely walk past his podium.

The grey cat with black stripes appeared to be merely on its way to an unknown destination and the media presence didn't seem to be a deterrent to its movement.

A Twitter user online noted that the CJ had literally let the cat out of the bag as he detailed his tumultuous relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Even before the dust settled and the identity of the Supreme Court cat established, another feline struck in another press conference kilometres away in Kirinyaga county.

This time, the Political Parties Liason Committee address that would play second fiddle to the creature's needs.

The unassuming cat, white in colour with a dark patch on its forehead groomed itself as the politicians issued their statements on the national issues. Front and centre it sat on the grass patiently waiting for the media event to be over.

When the photos of the two cats were shared, all manner of theories were floated on the symbolism of the house pets in public forums.

One Patrick Home noted that "With many restaurants closed due to Covid-19 these stray cats are getting desperate. The bins have no food."

Among the most ridiculous theories was that the creatures were actually government employees while others attributed their presence to witchcraft.

"This is a police cat, that is a property of the government of Kenya, it has a salary and pension," Lmiano Patrick claimed.

Tuto Josephat stated, "These are the results of the handshake. When you bring mganga onboard expect such things. The father of all witchcraft is now in government."

Cats are known to be mild creatures with calculated yet unexpected moves. Owners have reported that cats are prone to surprising moves and can be spotted in random positions in unusual times.
