Wamumu MCA John Kanga on Tuesday, May 9 shaved his head in celebration at the Kirinyaga County Assembly moments after a majority of the ward representatives voted to impeach Governor Ann Waiguru.

Kanga explained that he had sworn not to shave any of his hair including beards until they successfully impeached the Governor.

A barber was invited to the County Assembly to shave him as he addressed reporters, with a large crowd gathered at the assembly gates cheering him on.

The ward representative went on to state that, to him, the shaving of his head and beards was symbolic as it represented the end of the Waiguru era.

He noted that he saw his hair as representative of alleged misdeeds by Waiguru's administration which included alleged corruption and abuse of office.

By shaving, Kanga argued that he was cleansing himself from the ills associated with Waiguru, a former Cabinet Secretary for Devolution.

"I have decided to shave all my hair today, everything including my beard because today we have finally impeached Waiguru.

"I had sworn that I would not shave at all until we finished this job of sending Governor Waiguru home," he stated.

24 out of 33 MCAs voted in support of the motion to impeach Waiguru, with six ward representatives abstaining from the vote.

"I can, therefore, confirm that the vote has met the two-thirds requirement to decide on this question. The I's have it," declared County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi.

At one point during the heated proceedings, drama was witnessed as Karumandi MCA Anthony Munene and nominated MCA Lucy Njeri were thrown out.

The two MCAs are both allies of Waiguru, and objected to having their signatures on a motion in support of impeachment as they accused those behind the motion of forgery.

“This is not a Kangaroo Court! This is not a kangaroo assembly. We want to withdraw our signatures!” How come people are forging our signatures? I’m not removing our governor. When you raise your voice you are thrown out," Munene protested.
