Nandi Governor Stephen Sang blasted the Police Service for protecting a rogue officer who killed two men in the Nandi-Kakamega border disputes.

The Governor called for action to be taken on the policewoman after attempts to bring her to book were dealt a blow by her colleagues.

"We have information that the policewoman is being protected by her colleagues and the rank and file within the security apparatus on the Kakamega side.

"If the government is seen to be biased and to be protecting a rogue policewoman who has gone on a rampage shooting two unarmed youngsters then you cannot expect the local communities to listen to the same government when it comes to resolving this issue," stated Sang.

The skirmishes were staged at Tabolwa-Kanin village on the border of Nandi and Kakamega counties with one of the two men being shot on Friday, May 29.

The dispute was fueled after two families living in Kataniin village, Nandi North, on the common border of two neighbouring counties, disagreed over a piece of land which flared up into a tribal clash.

Sang lamented at the lack of action being taken on the policewoman from the government despite the killings happening days ago.

"It is becoming difficult for the national government to do the same if a policewoman deployed by the government to go and protect residents on either side because they serve both communities.

"The Kenya police pride themselves as "utumishi kwa wote" irrespective of the county boundaries. It is unfortunate that this policewoman shot and killed two young men and as we speak no action has been taken against the policewoman," he noted.

Sang added it was regrettable that a Kenyan taxpayer would be taken down by a gun and a bullet that was bought from their own taxes.

There is an increasing concern over the number of deaths caused by police with several protests held to demand justice.
