A photo of a vehicle with the number plates KCW 675E was on Wednesday, June 10, circulated on various social media platforms, with a warning that members of the public needed to be wary of the occupants.

Reports indicated that the occupants of the vehicle pretended to be stranded, then robbed those who came to their rescue.

In addition, the owners are said to have modified the number plate from KCW to KCV, whenever it suited them.

Following the alert by members of the public, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters intercepted the said vehicle along Southern bypass towards Kikuyu.

Two suspects, Caroline Wanjiku Maina and Keith Njoroge, both aged 25-years-old, were arrested.

"Both individuals placed in lawful custody as further investigations continue. The motor vehicle whose original Registration number is KCV 675F has been detained," wrote DCI on their Twitter page.

The investigative body thanked the public for highlighting the matter.

"Great job DCI. They should serve as an example to anyone who may be thinking to do such crimes," Kung'u Njenga commented.

"That was swift, good job," Kipkemboi Siria weighed in.

According to the Kenya law, if a person is charged with robbery, they are liable to face 14 years in prison.

However, if the suspects were armed or in possession of dangerous weapons and in the company of one or more person or if he wounds, strikes, beats, or uses any form of violence before, at, or after the time of the robbery, he shall face the death penalty.
