Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday, June 11 unveiled a new online lecture series targeting university students from around the world.

Owino listed 19 courses offered in universities whose students would benefit from the lectures which will begin on Saturday, June 13 on his social media platforms.

The lawmaker will start by teaching a unit on advanced Mathematics. He explained that there is need to begin the program due to high demand that emerged following his online Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) revision classes.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, June 12, Owino disclosed information on the courses targeted and explained his early focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The courses are; Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Bachelor of Education, B.Sc Industrial Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, B.Sc Chemistry, B.Sc Mathematics, Astrophysics, Meteorology, Instrumentation and Control, Quantity Survey, Geo-spatial and Space Technology, Pharmacy and Nuclear Science.

Dubbing it the comrades' edition, he asserted that it did not mean he would stop undertaking his now-famous KCSE secondary school revision classes but only sought to expand the program in a bid to impact more learners who are stuck at home during the Covid-19 period.

Acknowledging that he had focused on STEM courses as the program began, Babu also revealed plans to target students taking courses outside the sciences.

"The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) revision classes will still proceed as scheduled even as we undertake the comrades' edition.

We have decided also to be helping university students. We deal mostly with STEM but eventually, we will also take on other subjects apart from the sciences," he stated.

Babu further disclosed that he was interviewing teachers as he brings more onboard due to the increased demand for educational content on his platforms.

"Babu Owino gives an opportunity for teachers to help students, they are doing it for free. We are looking for teachers for all subjects. Any teacher irrespective of years of experience will qualify. I will do the interviews.

"Opportunity will be given to youthful teachers and old teachers. We will not discriminate as long as somebody has proper content," he stated.

While Babu has earned plaudits from several Kenyans for his commitment to education, his critics have accused him of using the classes to launder his reputation tainted by the attempted murder charge looming over his head.
