Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) Chief Executive Daniel Yumbya has lifted the lid on an elaborate con scheme that has hit the Health Industry.
In a statement on June 11, the CEO noted that a group of conmen targeting health practitioners had returned to the industry,, with false promises of jobs in an attempt to swindle unsuspecting job seekers.
"The KMPDC CEO would like to inform members of the public, doctors, and proprietors of health institutions that the conmen are back to extort money by promising jobs/council positions and upgrading of facilities.
"Kindly report such persons to the nearest police station for action," read a statement from KMPDC.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) CEO Chibanzi Mwachonda noted that the union had taken appropriate measures to secure its members from being conned from the scheme.
Mwachonda also noted that the council had tracked down phone numbers of the suspects and was pursuing to have them apprehended.
"The union has taken action to sensitise its members not to part with any money from anyone regarding licensing and registration. That is a process under the council.
"The council has been made aware, and the phone numbers noted, therefore, that the council will take the necessary action," he added.
"We do not have anyone who has come forth and indicated that they have been affected, majority dismiss them," he added.
This comes roughly a month after Health CS Mutahi Kagwe declared war on cartels he claimed had invaded the ministry. He then transferred 31 employees.
The employees included senior public servants who were entrusted with sourcing for health service providers and approving payments amounting to billions of shillings every year.
Kagwe made the move after reports emerged that Covid-19 funds had been misappropriated.
