Olenguruone OCPD Henry Nyaranga blatantly denied police being involved in the roughing up of Mercy Cherono despite the video trending on Wednesday, June 10.

The OCPD claimed reports circulating around were quite contrary to the actual events as police were involved in saving the woman from a public beating.

"Yesterday we took her statement and she truthfully admitted that she was beaten by the public and she was saved by the police.

"The other reports that we are seeing on social media that she was beaten by police when in fact she is saying that she was saved by the police, the reports are contradicting. So we have moved to investigate the matter," noted the OCPD.

Cherono had been accused of breaking into the house of Kuresoi South Deputy OCS David Kiprotich in the company of two other gang members.

The woman claimed that the officer dragged him out of a bar and started beating her, promoting the public to join in after shouting.

"I was seated in a bar and he found me in there, he dragged me out of a bar and beat me and raised an alarm.

After he shouted people now came to beat me and he injured my leg," explained the woman.

The video that set social media ablaze showed the woman tied to a motorcycle and being dragged on a rough road leaving her with serious injuries in the process.

Residents rushed to intervened and save her from the inhuman policeman with another officer taking the initiative to rush her to Olenguruone Sub-County Hospital.

The incident attracted a lot of attention from various bodies both governmental and non-governmental that condemned the heinous act.

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i confirmed that three officers had been apprehended following the circulation of the video online.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has launched an investigation into an incident in which a woman was tied behind a motorcycle and dragged on the road.
