It would have been ingenious of any Kenyan man to pull a stunt that would have seen him risk and flout Coronavirus (Covid-19) directives to woo his girlfriend into marriage.

On Thursday, June 18, social media was awash with reports of one Maxwell Oketch circumventing President Uhuru Kenyatta's cessation of movement by flying from Nairobi to Kabati, Murang'a County to propose to his girlfriend.

"Man defies bad weather and Covid-19 restrictions to propose to his long-term girlfriend. Maxwell Oketch hired a chopper at Wilson Airport and flew over more than half a dozen roadblocks to Kabati, Murang'a.

"They later flew to Diani, Kwale County (for a honeymoon)," several reports claimed.

This raised questions on how Oketch managed to travel across several counties after President Kenyatta extended the intercounty lockdown in Nairobi and Mombasa Counties by 30 days.

International and local flights were also suspended by the government after the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic broke out in Kenya.

However, the story turned out to be fictitious and well-choreographed as the real occasion occurred in 2018 in South Africa when Malawian gospel rapper, Duncan Zgambo (Gwamba) proposed to his long time girlfriend Kondi.

The artist reportedly spent 10 million Kwacha (Malawian currency and approximately Ksh1.5 million) to hire the chopper and book a venue at Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenberg, South Africa for the proposal.

The two flew over 120 kilometres from Pretoria to Rustenberg.

The multi-award-winning songwriter and Bola Kuche hitmaker married his girlfriend in October 2018.
