Skywatchers in Nairobi can catch a glimpse of the global phenomenon which is set to commence on Sunday, June 21, at 6:46 am.

The partial solar eclipse is expected to last 2 hours and 30 minutes, peaking at 7:47 am at a 0.67 magnitude.

Nairobi lies along a narrow band from west Africa to the Arabian Peninsula, India and southern China that will get to witness the solar eclipse.

Sunday’s natural occurrence has been termed as the most dramatic "ring of fire" solar eclipse to shadow the Earth in years.

The annular eclipse- ring of fire- is an eclipse of the sun in which the edge of the sun remains visible as a bright ring around the moon.

During the occurrence, the sun is not quite close enough to our planet to completely obscure sunlight, leaving a thin ring of the solar disc visible.

The "ring of fire" will first be seen in the northeastern Republic of Congo at 5:56 local time (04:56 GMT) just a few minutes after sunrise.

Although this isn't a total solar eclipse, you still need to watch the eclipse using safety measures.
