Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi on Thursday, June 25, claimed that armed goons hired by Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo descended on City Hall, in a bid to remove her from office.

The Speaker stated that she and MCAs allied to her were forced to sleep in the County Assembly to thwart an attempt take over by MCAs supporting reinstated majority leader Abdi Guyo and clerk Jacob Ngwele.

In the wee hours of the morning, Elachi explained that she saw rowdy men, who were armed, through her office window.

"The former clerk has been taken to Central police station after he was caught with two guns. Other young people were outside with a gun together with the former Majority leader. We thank God that all the members who are inside are safe," Elachi stated.

The speaker blamed Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju for the aggravated problems in the county assembly.

She lamented that Tuju was not enforcing her ruling at the floor of the county assembly where she removed a number of MCAs from committees who were facing disciplinary action.

Weighing in on the matter, nominated MCA June Ndegwa stated that the goons had been sourced from Kayole and Matopeni Spring valley and that police officers had to be called to quell the disturbance.

She added that the fight was between the Nairobi County and the Nairobi Metropolitan Service, where the county administration was seeking to have the county assembly reverse the deed of transfer signed with the national government.

On her part, Ziwani MCA Millicent Mugadi stated that they spent the night at City Hall after they got word that their lives were in danger.

"We are being attacked because we are supporting NMS and the President. We were told that we may be kidnapped and we were not safe in our houses so we came to the assembly because we knew this would be the safest place for us," she said.
