A number of Senate Committees have elected new chairpersons to fill the gaps left after Jubilee ousted Senators allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

On May 26, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju kicked out Senators Samson Cherargei  (Nandi), John Kinyua (Laikipia) and Senator Christopher Langat (Bomet) from Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations, Justice Legal Affairs and Human Rights and Education Committees respectively.

The Senate conducted elections on Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30 with ODM and Wiper among the parties that benefitted from the changes. All leaders were elected unopposed.

In the Justice Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee, Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mogeni (ODM) was elected as the Chairperson replacing Senator Cherargei. Nominated Senator Naomi Waqo will deputise him.

In the Devolution Committee, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang (ODM) was elected Chairperson, replacing Laikipia's John Kinyua. Lamu Senator Anuar Oletiptip (Jubilee) was elected Vice-Chairperson.

Kinyua was transferred from Devolution to ICT to replace Senate Majority Leader Samuel Phoghisio. Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen declined to fill Kinyua's role at Devolution after the purge.

In the Education Committee, Nominated Senator Alice Milgo (Jubilee) was elected Chairperson, taking over from Bomet Senator Christopher Langat. Nominated Senator Agnes Zani (ODM) will deputise Milgo.

Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga (Jubilee) was re-elected Chair of Senate Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, with Kitui Senator Kiio Wambua (Wiper) deputising him.

In Energy Committee, Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina (Jubilee) was elected Chairperson with Nominated Senator Victor Prengei as Vice-Chairperson. Prengei was among the Senators who snubbed Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting which saw Murkomen ousted as Senate Majority leader. He, however, redeemed himself after facing Jubilee's disciplinary committee.

KANU leader and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was re-elected as ICT Committee Chairperson. Nominated Senator Abshiro Halake (KANU) will deputise him.
