NTV has defied Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who had threatened to sue the station over a story aired on Monday, June 29.

NTV, which has been enjoying the popularity of its creative headlines, used the same to scoff at the MP.

In the news bulletin of Thursday evening, July 2, the station wrote: “Babu shoots the messenger” as news anchor Mark Masai stated that the hearing was scheduled for July 8.

"Shooting the messenger" is a metaphoric phrase used to describe the act of blaming the bearer of bad news.

Until the advent of modern telecommunication, messages were usually delivered by human envoys.

If the message was unfitting, the receiver might blame the messenger for such bad news and take their anger out on them.

Kenyans praised NTV for the boldness shown in airing the story and not backing down for the MP.

“Babu Owino threatens to sue Nation Media group for running the DJ Evolve story, NTV rerun the clip of him shooting the victim, attach the claims brought up by his lawyers, the father's clip and to top it, caption it 'Babu shoots the messenger" LOL I love these guys,” shared Kimanzi on Twitter.

The team behind the creative headlines at NTV comprises, Mark Masai, Sheila Sendeyo, Zainab Wandati, Watson Karuma, Emmanuel Juma.  Joseph Warungu, Dennis Okari and Edmond Nyabola, as well as other editors, reporters and various team members who play different roles.

The Swahili tags are done by the journalists at the Swahili Desk among them Jane Ngoiri, Shabaan Ulaya, Francis Mutegi, Salim Swaleh, Harith Salim.

Some of the most popular headlines that have captured the attention of Kenyans include No Party at Jubilee which was about the internal wrangles in the ruling party.

When President Uhuru Kenyatta sent flowers to frontline medics in the United Kingdom, NTV wrote: "UK Sends Flowers to the UK."
