The Kenya Police Service has moved to escalate measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus at its headquarters at Vigilance House.

According to an internal memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, July 17, 2020, Deputy Inspector General of Police Joseph Ndirangu ordered that all police officers working at Vigilance House submit themselves for Covid-19 testing.

“Kindly provide a list of all officers/staff under your command. The exercise is compulsory and soon there will be no admission to the headquarters without the test certificate,” read the memo sent to all directors, regional units, liaison officers and section heads.

Police officers who don’t work at the headquarters were also told to keep off Vigilance House.

The police bosses noted that many officers from all ranks had been frequenting the building seeking and negotiating for transfers among other requests.

“The deputy inspector general has directed that this should stop forthwith,” the document read.

All officers who have genuine issues were ordered to address them through the right channels.

At the Ministry of ICT, an officer based at Teleposta Towers succumbed to the virus as several other staff members tested positive.
