A little girl was among the highlights at a press conference by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in Embu County on Saturday, July 18.

The girl, Haula Amina boldly recited a poem about the current situation that had been brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic stating that some terms were not easy to comprehend.

"Curfew, lockdown, keeping distance who will explain to me?" she began as she gave examples of things that had changed since the pandemic, "I am not going to school, my [mommy] says no friends in the house, no greetings no going out, no goodnight hugs, who will explain to me?"

Her poem powerfully delivered as CS Kagwe stood at his podium highlighted various issues that arose with the restrictions from a child's perspective.

"Someone explain to the children, what is Corona, where did it come from, why has life changed?" she pleaded in the poem.

Amina further tackled the issue of parents being forced to work from home but not spending more time with their children.

She lameneted how her mother was working from home but did not have time to play with her as she turned to her cartoons and reading story books.

As she concluded, the girl prayed for God to heal all those ailing from the disease as she used Kagwe's famous phrase cautioning people to take the set preventive measures.

"Remember, if we treat this disease normally, it will treat us abnormally," she affirmed.

CS Kagwe, clearly impressed acknowledged that the poem had some wise words incorporated urging everyone to heed the advice in the art piece.

Amina's story is one replicated in many households around the country, where children are not going to school and the parents are working from home.

Education CS Geroge Magoha in June announced that all basic learning institutions would be reopened in January 2021.

The CS has on several occasions requested parents to take charge of the safety of their children during this pandemic period and even spend time with them.

"I want to state without fear of contradiction that parents must change their mindset and love their children by creating time. Love is measured by the number of minutes or hours you spend with your child and not by the amount of money you give your child,” he advised parents.
