Kenya Reaches Highest-Ever Covid-19 Infections as 960 Test Positive

Kenya has recorded 960 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) with the total cases reported so far rising to 17,603.

In the press release sent out by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, July 26, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that the confirmed cases were recorded from 8,261 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

The total samples tested since Coronavirus broke out in March 2020, now stands at 276,415.

A total of 169 more patients have also recovered from the disease, 83 of them being discharged from hospitals while 86 were under home-based care. This now brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 7,743.

Two people died in the last 24 hours with the death toll now rising to 280.

Of the 960 new cases, Nairobi led the rest of the counties, recording 510 positive cases. This brings the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Capital City to 10, 288 since the first case was announced in March 2020. 

According to the lates data, Nairobi's frequency/rate of infection currently stands at 58.44%.

Notably, Kajiado County recorded the second highest number of cases, with 102 residents testing positive, followed closely by Kiambu County with 100 confirmed cases.

The distribution of the rest per county were detailed as follows; Machakos 58, Mombasa 48, Busia 21, Garissa 17, Uasin Gishu 15, Kisumu 14, Nakuru 12, Narok 10, Turkana 9, Bomet 8, Kericho 7, Murang'a, Makueni and Laikipia with 5 each, Embu 3, Bungoma, Kakamega, Nyeri and Taita Taveta with 2 each and Kisii, Tana River and Trans Nzoia all registering 1 case each.

The latest report also showed that the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) currently leads in terms of admissions, with 206 Covid-19 patients admitted over the last 24 hours, while Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) admitted 85 over the same period.
