Former President Mwai Kibaki was not admitted to a Nairobi hospital's VIP wing on Monday, July 27, as had been earlier reported in some media outlets, his Private Secretary Ngari Gituku says.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Gituku refuted claims that Kibaki had been rushed to hospital stating that the reports were simply 'not true.'
"Some Kenyans are idle and foolish with nothing to do. I don't know where this madness is coming from. It is not true," stated Ngari.
Reports had claimed that the former head of state had been admitted to a hospital barely two weeks after his previous discharge.
Quoting an anynonymous source, the reports further claimed that Kibaki had been admitted for the same illness he had suffered previously.
The same publication had earlier indicated that the former head of state had been taken to the same hospital in June where he was treated for abdominal pains.
Another publication had also indicated that the former head of state had been admitted under a code name and that the whole floor had been secured for him.
Hoaxes
On Saturday, July 25, speculations had also been rife after a section of Kenyans indicated that there was heavy security presence at the Lee Funeral Home.
Some Kenyans speculated that the alleged commotion at the funeral home had something to do with the death of a VIP.
Gituku, also rubished the claims confirming that the former president was okay.
Kibaki, who is 89 years old, ruled the country between 2003 and 2013 after winning highly-contested elections in December 2002, an election that saw the opposition unite to defeat current President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In August 2016, the former head of state was flown to South Africa where he successfully underwent surgery to remove a blood clot.
