UPDATE 5:03: A four-month-old baby who went missing after being stolen from her mother 20 days ago was on Wednesday, August 7, found in Taru town, Voi.

The woman's best friend only known as Maureen was the prime suspect in the case. She, however, is said to have surrendered the baby to police officers on Wednesday night.

"Immediately after I left Nyanchama's house and went to town, I was placed under quarantine and it is only after I switched on the phone that I realised I was being sought after," Maureen stated.

Maureen is currently being held at Maumbu police station while the baby had been re-united with her family.

Rhoda Nyanchama narrated that the friend only known as Maureen and whom she had not seen for quite some time, had visited her for around two weeks saying that she wanted to help with house chores.

However, when time came for her to leave on Thursday, July 16, Nyanchama's friend played a trick on her and fled with her baby.

"I was washing my clothes in the company of my baby when Maureen approached me and asked to help with him and because I didn't think that she would go with the baby, I allowed her to take him," Rhoda stated.

That would be the last time Rhoda saw her child. The suspect indicated that she was going to the shop but never came back.

"It's now been three weeks since the incident occurred. I have reported the matter to the police but I am yet to get any good news," Rhoda expressed.

Maungu OCS Peter Akello has assured that the search for the infant is still ongoing.

The incident took place less than a month after bodies of two children (Alvina Mutheu and Henry Jacktone) were found hidden in the boot of a car at Athi River Police Station on Tuesday, June 30.

The children had been reported missing on June 11, and callers had requested Ksh500 in exchange for information regarding the whereabouts of the missing children.

Yet again, in May, a resident in Kisii County was distraught after her baby was kidnapped by a passenger she travelled with from Nakuru to Kisii County.

CCTV cameras captured both Nyaboke and the woman, as they took turns holding the baby.

Afterwards, they got back in the matatu with the friendly woman offering to buy Nyaboke's seven-month-old baby some juice.
