Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Thursday, July 30 advocated for teenagers to use contraceptives and women to be allowed to procure an abortion at choice.
Passaris was speaking as she was distributing appliances, sanitizer and sanitary towels to small scale beauty salons in Nairobi.
The Nairobi Woman Representative supported teenage girls to be placed on contraceptives and women to be handed a free choice on procuring an abortion.
"We have to have interventions, a woman has the right of choice, I'm totally pro-choice if I'm pregnant and I do not want to have the child I should be allowed to procure an abortion.
"If I'm sexually active and I want to be on contraceptives if a child is sexually active we are not saying make all the children be on contraceptives but if a child is sexually active they should be allowed to procure commodities," noted Passaris.
The founder of Adopt-A-Light highlighted the church's tough stand on contraceptives but noted that women spend so much money after procuring back door abortions which have detrimental effects.
Passaris also strongly condemned the alarming cases of defilement and sexual violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donation was organised by National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to cushion women that have been economically affected by Covid-19.
The Nairobi Woman Representative also spoke the high number of foetuses that have been discovered after 19 infants were discovered in Nairobi river during the cleanup exercise.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, July 28 ordered a countrywide crackdown on clinics issuing contraceptives to underage girls.
According to President Kenyatta, the clinics are promoting sexual promiscuity which is also taken advantage of by sexual predators who offer contraceptives to the minors to prevent pregnancies.
