Musau has replaced Yakub as the new coast regional commander.

Yakub had taken Sonko to court on January 22 when he accused the governor of assaulting him during an arrest in Voi.

At the time, Sonko was arrested in connection to the irregular award of a Ksh300 million tender.

The police boss later withdrew the charges, sparking debate on whether he was compromised to drop the case.

“I was not coerced by Sonko. I don’t know him and I have never met him. I am a Muslim and I don’t keep grudges. He attacked me but I decided to forgive him.

“We do things sometimes out of anger, Sonko and I are no exception. I made the decision after much reflection. My heart is clean. I feel no resentment,” he noted at the time.

The mini reshuffle comes at a time when the former Nairobi Police Commander complained of intimidation in the enforcement of Covid-19 directives.

He particularly cited influential bar owners who continued to violate the ban on selling alcohol.

“We have influential people who run these bars and threaten police officers. Once officers arrive at the joints they make calls and end up intimidating the officers,” Ndolo said.

Some of the areas that have been marked as notorious include Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho and Githurai. Others are Kilimani, Kawangware and South B.
