Police on Monday, August 3, conducted a successful night raid on a drunk criminal gang in Nakuru county.

Detailing the operation, the DCI disclosed that they had received information from members of the public over the whereabouts of the gang members.

The tip-off led the officers to a rental house at Zanzibar area in Rurii in the county, and instead of making the arrests immediately, bided their time as the gang partook in alcohol.

As the gang comprising of four men and a lady got drunk, the team of officers moved in some minutes past midnight, apprehending the suspects.

Two pairs of military uniforms, rolls of bhang, bottles of alcohol and several sim cards were found in the single room.

The assailants ranging between the ages of 22 and 38 were all placed in custody pending further police action.

According to a recent report by Crime Research, a data collection centre on crime statistics, robberies, burglaries, and rape incidences made up the biggest percentages of vices in the county.

Theft of stock, muggings and possession of narcotics, murder, stealing, gender-based violence and defilement cases are also prevalent in the county.

Residents have blamed security agents and politicians for the increase in crime in the area noting that some bad elements in the police service had turned gangs into cash cows.

Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui Mwenda, however, dispelled the reports citing frustration in their efforts to nail politicians and the criminals involved.

“There is a case in court against a politician who wanted to burn a petrol station. The matter is still pending even though the police did their work. You can’t blame police for justice delayed or denied,” Mbui stated in a previous interview.
