Weeks after missing on-air, Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara has returned with heavy criticism of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Speaking during her segment on Citizen TV's News Gang on Thursday, August 6, Okwara opined that the governor should resign after claiming that he had been served with alcohol at State House before signing over Nairobi to the National Government.

"In any civilised society, democracy even, he would have resigned from that position all together after making that claim and given up whatever powers he has left with.

"It also makes a mockery of the whole process, of his election, of Nairobi residents or our society, for him to make this claim and still be in office. Now, what will his defense be, similar to the pop song 'Because I Got High?" Yvonne questioned.

Yvonne clarified that deconstructing Sonko's sentiments did not mean that she sided with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

However, she poked holes at Sonko's decision to take the matter to court, adding that she had doubts that the governor would be the best leader for the capital city.

"Who knows? He may have been high too when he made the claim about being high before. To the governor of Nairobi we say, thanks but no thanks. We can take it from here, we got this," she concluded.

Following the formation of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in February 2020, Governor Sonko and the NMS boss General Mohamed Badi, have been embroiled in a war of words over the legality of NMS.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, August 5, summoned Badi before the National Security Council, Kenya's top security organ which he chaired.

Earlier, on July 23, 2020, Sonko had indicated that he was not in the right state of mind when he signed the deed of transfer.

"I was not sober. Hawa watu wa State House waliniconfuse na pombe kwanza (The people at State House confused me with some alcohol) by the time I was meeting the president for the signing, I was just seeing zigzag," Sonko stated.

He added that he would not be intimidated by General Badi, accusing him of not complying with the law.

Additionally, Sonko hinted that his impeachment case, which was suspended, may be revisited.

'By not complying with the law then they better impeach me just like Waititu (former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu). However, I will not entertain his (Badi) intimidation anymore," Sonko lashed out.
