The cause of the accident was not yet established by the time of publishing but Kenyans.co.ke was reliably informed that the van rolled several times after veering off the road.

Photos of the scene showed the crushed vehicle surrounded by copies of the Saturday Nation newspaper scattered on the ground.

The back compartment of the Isuzu pickup was ripped open by the impact.

The windscreen of the vehicle was shattered with the passengers side being the most damaged.

The front grill, headlights and bumper were completely destroyed in the accident. The driver’s door appeared to have been pried open to rescue him.

Just a week before, Nation Media Group unveiled a new look for its newspapers as well as a digital-first strategy to news publishing.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Nation Media Group Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu stated that the brand was expanding to serve its pan-African audience.

“We have correspondents in most countries in Africa who serve news directly to us. The new site will be rolled out in the next few weeks,” he explained.

The announcement was followed by the unveiling of a new logo as well as a new layout for its website and new web address through which readers read stories.

The new website, “Nation.Africa” will feature the new logo and different colour palettes which will change based on different segments. The Lifestyle segment which has undergone the transformation features the colour purple. Other different categories of content will have their own prominent colours.
