President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) boss Major General Mohamed Badi on Monday, August 10 made an impromptu tour around Nairobi to inspect hospitals under construction.

Uhuru and Badi commissioned the construction of Level 3 hospitals in Nairobi’s informal settlements as part of the government's plan to improve healthcare in the county.

The duo made a tour to inspect the construction of 16-bed capacity hospitals at Muthua in Uthiru and Kianda in Kibra as well as a 24-bed facility at Maendeleo Village in Mukuru kwa Reuben.

The three hospitals are part of the 20 earmarked by NMS for construction in informal settlements at an average cost of Ksh70 million each.

During the tour, Uhuru was also accompanied by Nairobi Regional Coordinator Kang'ethe Thuku and MPs including John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Imran Okoth (Kibra) and Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South).

While interacting with locals in Dagoretti, Uhuru promised to return to open the hospitals once construction was complete.

"We are here today because of this project that you have seen we have embarked on and after a few months I will return to open the hospitals," he noted.

The President also told residents that the projects were part of a grand plan to transform the city’s look and improve services.

He asked them to ignore disruptive and empty political rhetoric saying the government's focus was to improve living standards.

Uhuru also urged the residents to continue observing Ministry of Health's Covid-19 protocols in order to protect them from the deadly virus.

The Head of State has made a habit of making impromptu visits around Nairobi and as recently as Saturday, August 8 he interacted with the public along Kirinyaga road after inspecting NMS projects.
