743 Recover as 679 Test Positive for Covid-19

Kenya recorded 679 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) with the total cases reported so far rising to 28,104.

Out of these, 400 were identified as male, while 279 are women, with the youngest being a 1-month old.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 press briefing on Wednesday, August 12, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced that the confirmed cases were recorded from 6,590 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The total samples tested since Coronavirus broke out in March 2020, now stands at 369,051.

A total of 743 more patients also recovered from the disease. This now brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 14,610.

From the latest list of recovered patients, 685 were from the home-based care program, while 58 were from various health facilities across the country.

The distribution of the latest Covid-19 cases were distributed across the counties as follows:

Nairobi 349, Kiambu 69, Kajiado 35, Machakos 25, Nyeri 23, Garissa 18, Mombasa 16, Kericho 14, Uasin Gishu 13, Nyandarua 13, Tharaka Nithi 11, Laikipia 9, Nakuru 8, Migori 8, Kisumu 7, Nandi 6, Busia 6, Meru 5, Murang'a 4, Kirinyaga 4, Makueni 4, Isiolo 4, Tana River 4, Trans Nzoia 3, Homabay 3, Embu 3, Kitui 2, Vihiga 2, Narok 2, Kilifi 2, Kakamega 1, Baringo 1, Samburu 1, Siaya 1, Bomet 1, Taita Taveta 1, and Nyamira 1.

Sadly, 18 people died over the same period, bringing the death toll to 456. Of the 18, 15 had underlying conditions.

“Unfortunately today we did have a home fatality; a death reported from home. This was in Meru; a 55-year-old female who was hypertensive," she stated.

Also among the dead was a health official, Kamau Mugenda, who was stationed at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri). 

CAS Mwangangi eulogised the late Mugenda as a diligent public servant, adding that he would be buried later on in the day.

World Health Organization (WHO) Kenya Representative Dr Rudi Eggers presented a donation of essential items during the briefing, including 250,000 masks to be handed out to health service workers.
