Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Thursday, August 13 claimed that some senators woke up to find their bank accounts frozen.

In a post on Twitter, Cheruiyot alleged that legislators who supported Meru Senator Mithika Linturi's amendment on the revenue sharing formula were intimidated to change their stand.

He also claimed that the affected honourable members were handed ficticious tax demands.

"A number of senators who voted in support of Senator Linturi's amendment to the Revised formula report woke up to frozen bank accounts and fictitious tax demands from KRA.

"Shameful of the so called system. The resolve is firmer. Kenya must win this war against impunity," Cheruiyot's post read.

However, speaking with Kenyans.co.ke, lawyer and former Nyamira Senator Mong'are Okong'o dismissed the claims as alarmist.

He explained that according to the law, only the courts have the mandate to give orders to freeze bank accounts.

"On the KRA aspect, if you have a company and it is not compliant then they can ask to comply. Those are sideshows and alarmist statements which have no place in modern day Kenya.

"As a former senator I can say they have failed in their mandate because I don't understand why people cannot agree with constitutional mandates," he criticised.

Okong'o added that senators were only catapulting themselves to party wings and sympathy pegged on 2022 elections instead of focusing on current issues.

Cheruiyot's claims added fuel to the debate about the existence of an outfit comprising infulential and wealthy people who use resources to control governance in Kenya.

Deputy President William Ruto spoke on Tuesday, August 11 addressing the said shadow organisation.

“I just want to tell them: ‘We’re waiting for you’. This system, this deep state we are being told about, we are waiting for it,” the DP stated.
