Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala spoke out after Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers camped at his residence the whole morning on Monday, August 17.

Malala was part of three senators, including Christopher Langat (Bomet) and Steve Lelegwe (Samburu), facing arrest over unclear charges

The Kakamega senator claimed that the police officers camped at his home and deprived him of essential services like electricity and water.

"From 3am these armed police officers have been camping at my gate and they are not leaving anytime soon, they are not saying what they want.

"They have disconnected power and water from my house, they are aware we are supposed to go to the Senate to vote for the Third Generation Formula," noted Malala.

The senator revealed that he was still at his home and explained that power was disconnected to hinder his communication with other colleagues.

Malala stated that he was yet to file a complaint after against Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, whom he accused of intimidated him. He claimed the Senate majority whip had threatened to freeze his bank accounts.

"They were alleging that I owe the taxman basically Pay as You Earn remittance so it was not a matter between me and the taxman, it was a matter between my former employer in the Kakamega County Assembly who had not remitted PAYE," he explained on why his accounts were frozen.

Malala also opened up on why he was targeted alongside two other senators, with Langat surrendering to police who camped outside his home the whole night.

"They have looked at senators who are gaining but are supporting senators who are losing, so they are looking at people who have delegations, in the event where that senator is not in the house, somebody from this delegation can vote on their behalf," he alleged.

He noted that the delegation that would vote on behalf of Elegeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nairobi counterpart Johnson Sakaja would still vote against the formula, hence they were not targeted.
