The FORD Kenya party's National Executive Council (NEC) on Monday, August 17, announced the expulsion of 3 members over the attempted overthrow of Senator Moses Wetangula.
The three were listed as Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu, Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and Nominated MCA Cynthia Mutere.
Eseli was serving as the party's Secretary-General prior to his ouster.
Leadership wrangles have threatened to split one of the oldest political parties in the country.
On June 8, a gazette notice by the Registrar of Political Parties, Anne Nderitu, showed that Wetangula had been replaced by Wamunyinyi as the party leader.
This resulted in a fiery battle, with the Bungoma Senator going as far as filing a case in court against the Wamunyinyi-led team.
However, on June 12, he requested the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) to refer the matter for resolution by the party resulting in the latest directive.
The notice of June 8, 2020, also sought views on the intent to have Mandu Mandu replaced by Josephine Maungu as the organising secretary.
At the beginning of June 2020, Wamunyinyi convened a meeting in which he was endorsed by party members, who accused Senator Wetangula of failing to steer the party.
Speaking just hours after the announcement of his ouster, the Bungoma Senator rebutted saying the NEC would discipline errant members.
In his statement, Wetangula also announced that Wamunyinyi would be replaced by Vincent Mogaka as Sectoral Chair for Livestock, and that Chris Wamalwa would take over as the Secretary-General.
