Actor and YouTuber Abel Mutua has revealed what led him to quit alcohol, recounting how he blacked out in a public urinal in Nairobi.
In an episode on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, August 19, he stated that on that particular day in 2005, he had gone out drinking with his friends in Kibera.
Before heading to the club they had already consumed gin in what many revellers have dubbed the pre-game, designed to save money at the club.
While at the club Abel's cousin invited him to his house in Umoja where he had expensive wine. The actor obliged and left his friends.
After a few bottles at his cousin's house, Abel decided to go home and upon waking up from the sofa, he crashed head first into the coffee table.
Despite signs that he may have been way too drunk to go anywhere, the actor insisted on going home and boarded a matatu from Umoja to Railways Bus Terminal.
The former Tahidi High actor alighted just next to a public toilet at the junction of Racecourse Road and Haile Selassie Avenue.
Abel recalls that he first mistakenly went inside the ladies' washroom where he was ejected and proceeded to the urinal.
"I woke up 45 minutes later. Whatever was supposed to be inside was outside," he recounted.
After making his way to Kibera, he found his friends who he had left at the club earlier being escorted to an waiting vehicle and joined them.
Since he was completely inebriated, Abel did not realise his friends were being marched into the infamous Mariamu (police vehicle) until they got to the station and were locked up.
In another drunken escapade later, Abel decided to confront a man who had harassed one of his friends during a visit to South B.
The actor asked his friend whether he knew where his assailant lived and took them there.
They went into Police Band Estate in South B and knocked on the door of their target, whom they did not know was a police officer. The officer clobbered all the three drunk friends before chasing them away.
